How to score Hearts
- Play a complete hand and count penalty cards: hearts are 1 point each and the queen of spades is 13 in the cited standard.
- If someone shoots the moon, apply your selected table method before entering the resulting hand score.
- Enter each player’s hand penalty, including zero for no points.
- The scorekeeper ends the game when anyone reaches 100; the lowest total leads.
What this scorekeeper records
The scorekeeper adds the hand values you enter; enter the final per-hand penalty after any moon adjustment. Moon scoring varies by table.

Game end: play to 100 points. Lowest total wins.
Scoring example
A hand contains three hearts and the queen of spades: 3 + 13 = 16 penalty points for that player. Enter 16. If your group shoots the moon, apply the house method first.
Variant notes
- In the standard scoring described by Pagat, each heart is 1 penalty point and the queen of spades is 13.
- Shooting the moon is a variant choice: one common method subtracts 26 from the shooter; another adds 26 to everyone else. Pick one before play.
- A hand ends when all cards are played. The game ends after a player reaches 100; lowest total wins.
